WHY YOU'LL REACH FOR IT

My prerequisite for these new pendant necklaces was simple: each had to be distinctive and available in very limited editions. I especially loved the idea of designing them to mix with the newest pieces in the Out on the Town Collection. There's something about a shorter layer of beautiful beads sitting above a long gold pendant that immediately catches my eye—the contrast in materials, shapes, and lengths makes the combination so much more interesting.

• I designed this tailored pendant with layering in mind. I especially love the contrast of a colorful beaded necklace above it and the clean gold medallion falling below. Each seems to make the other more interesting.
• The lightweight oval-link chain keeps the silhouette beautifully clean. I added the short length of chain below the main strand to create an elongated Y shape and give the medallion a little more room to command attention.
• It's the hand-rubbed satin finish that first drew me to this gold-plated medallion. Look closely and you'll see the tailored knobbed detailing around the edge—just enough unexpected texture to give the clean shape a modern personality.
• At 20 inches, the necklace creates a beautiful foundation for shorter layers. The additional one-inch drop gives the medallion its finishing touch and lets it become the quiet focal point of the whole arrangement.
