WHY YOU'LL REACH FOR IT

I've always been fascinated by Ametrine, a variety of quartz that naturally brings together the purple of Amethyst and the golden warmth of Citrine. I love the way those unexpected colors allow it to move so easily between warm and cool shades. And then there's the extraordinary 54-inch length. Wear it dramatically long, double it, even triple it—the same necklace seems to reinvent itself every time.

• There's something wonderfully glamorous about an opera-length necklace. I can't help picturing the women of the 1920s swinging their long strands of beads as they danced the Charleston. A hundred years later, that sense of movement and drama still feels irresistible.
• Ametrine and Citrine create an unexpected color story. Those flashes of purple and gold play beautifully together and open the door to both warm and cool colors already in your wardrobe.
• I especially love the idea of picking up those purple tones in another necklace. Chocolate Moonstone or Peacock Pearls layered alongside it would bring out entirely different nuances in the Ametrine.
